ARA Membership

Rowing & Regatta Mag - Hmmm....superb photo!GGBC is a fully affiliated member of the Amateur Rowing Association, the national governing body for the sport of rowing. It works at all levels from recreational rowing right up to running the highly successful GB team. It provides advice and guidance on such matters as safety and welfare, coaching courses, health and fitness, property, and of course racing.

To row competitively at an ARA regattas you need to be a full competitive rowing member of the ARA. Note - Goring & Streatley regatta is not an ARA event and is open to all comers.

  • Education and training material

GGBC members are encouraged to join the ARA. There are a number of membership categories -

Safety & Welfare

We all need to be aware of safety and how to conduct ourselves in a safe manner. It’s in everyone’s interests to follow a few simple guidelines, mostly just common sense, which will make everyone’s time on the river a more enjoyable and accident free experience.  All members are actively encouraged to read the GGBC safety policy (see the members booklet), read the safety notice boards and the ARA Safety Code.

Safety Code - Safety, Water Safety Code

Floatation Aids - ARA - Safety Aids

Cold Water Survival - Document

Resuscitation Guidelines - Booklet

River Conditions & Lock Closures - Environment Agency

GGBC takes the welfare of all our members seriously, particularly vulnerable adults and children. The club has appointed a welfare officer who should be contacted should anyone have concerns.
