Punting

The club has two fibreglass Salters punts - wide and stable craft,  these boats can accommodate at least 4 passengers + a punter. Complete with aluminium punting poles, paddles (for the deep bits!) and seat cushions. What better way to spend an evening on the river? Both boats have full covers to save bailing before each outing. They are ideal for families outings or a short overnight tour - accommodating camping gear shouldn't be a problem.

Based at The Swan at Streatley between the Goring and Cleeve locks. The reach is rather short but still there is lots to explore. It is possible to navigate up to Goring mill along the narrow cut....only for the adventurous! Care needs to be taken at both ends of the reach - the weirs should be avoided!

If you want to go further a field then why not go through the locks (note the time they close for your return journey). Above Cleeve you can head for the Leathern Bottel, or Beatle & Wedge and even camp on the islands above the railway bridge. Down stream below Goring lock you can pole down to Child-Beale.

Learn2Punt

It's a dilemma we've all had to face - to punt Oxford or Cambridge style?

Punting isn't as easy as it might first appear....especially in deep water with a muddy river bed! Always take paddles with you just in case the punting becomes too difficult. Windy conditions are particularly tricky.....you've been warned.
In the future we aim to hold a Learn2Punt course (okay, may be an afternoon tuition with an expert punter). In the meantime you'll need to teach yourselves....

Please note the punting safety section in the Membership Handbook - it has lots of helpfull advice on having a safe and fun outing.
