Goring & Streatley Regatta
 Saturday 18th July 2009

Goring and Streatley Regatta

The highlight of the Goring Gap Boat Club's year is our summer regatta.

Planning for this year's regatta has been underway from the moment that the last team crossed the finish line last July. We always try and take on board the lessons from previous years, to make each event better.

It's not too early to think about the regatta - why not contact one of our members to find out how to help out running the event, or to ask for details on exhibiting. Or start your intensive training now to get that Dongola across the line in record time?

Regatta Tickets - Entrance tickets may be purchased in advance at the special price of £5 for adults and £2 for children/seniors. These can be ordered online or purchased from 'Inspirations' and local pubs.

Gazebo Bookings - Every popular this a a great way to book a prime spot on the river bank and buy your tickets in advance. The gazebo pitches line the regatta course and give families and friends and great base for the big day.

Email gazebo@goringgapbc.org.uk ...... or join the rush for the few free spaces on the day!

Racing

The Goring & Streatley Regatta's aim is to get as many crews onto the water who want to compete and there are three different classes so that complete beginners through to reasonably competent rowers can all compete on a fair basis over a short course, of 300 metres or 500 metres. Crews can enter on their own account, or represent pubs and workplaces. This isn't an ARA event and we welcome novice rowers and people who have never rowed before. Please note - ARA points holders (anyone above novice status) cannot enter the regatta except as part of a 8+ challenge crew.

Events include coxed fours, single sculls, dongolas, dinghies and canoes. There are races for men, women and mixed crews, and events for juniors and children.

For the more experience rowers we have a number of invitation challenge races in coxed eights.....to hopefully show how it should be done! Clubs are welcome to contact us to find out more.

See the canoeing 2008 highlights on U Tube.

Children's Dongola Race

Entries are invited to the Piers Ashworth Children's Dongola challenge. This event is open to crews made up of 5 children, who must be of primary school age (dongola racing can be quite wild, so this best suits year 5 and year 6 pupils), and one adult. Races take place over 100 metres and will be run during the lunch break at the Regatta. Crews should register on the day of the regatta by 11:00am at the Race Control Tent. Any questions email race@goringgapbc.org.uk

Regatta Sponsors

The Regatta is very grateful to local businesses and individuals for their ongoing support for the event.

There are lots of opportunities to become part of the biggest annual event in Goring & Streatley. If you'd like to get involved please contact us.
The 6 restricted fours used at the regatta are available for sponsorship during the day. A great way to get your organisation coverage throughout the event.

If you'd like to find out more about the sponsorship opportunities please email.

Entertainment

The Regatta is a great family day out  Not only is it a premier rowing competition but it also offers a traditional mix of family events, including a funfair, craft tent, a range of stalls, places to eat,  and of course a beer tent and lots of Live Music (the line up will be published soon....).

The 2009 regatta has some great attractions. When the excitement of the rowing becomes too intense why not relax by taking the kids (a good excuse for having a go yourself) to some of the best entertainment around. Here are just a few of the attractions.....

The Giant Slide......it's huge! A massive inflatable slide - clamber up the cargo netting, take in the view at the top, and then slide at great speed to the bottom. It's going to be a star attraction.....just £1 for limitless fun!

The Goring & Streatley regatta is steeped in history and tradition. It may be old fashioned but Punch and Judy is simply the best entertainment for kids around. With shows throughout the day be sure to note down the times.... failure to do so could cause great disappointment!

Live Music from Goring unplugged is always a popular  attraction....... may be the close vicinity to the bar has something to do with it!

As usual there will be a parade of classic cars for the Dads to ponder over......

Fun Fair - ever popular it will be back again this year. Lots of classic rides and amusements.

Don't forget the arena events. We have a really impressive display this year. Racing Ferrets - a sight not to be missed, and Dog Agility - that's dogs running extremely fast around a course of obstacles .....well that's the idea but things don't always go to plan!

There will also be a Birds of Prey display....so those ferrets just better watch out!

Lots for all the family..... plus lots of rowing of course!

Race Card Advertising

The regatta is Goring and Streatley's premier community event ...... an ideal marketing opportunity to reach an extensive local audience.

Why not advertise in the race card? Just be sure to meet the deadline (24th June) to avoid disappointment. For further details please email.

Stalls - How to book a pitch

Why not book a stall at this years’ Regatta. Outside field stalls cost from as little as £45 for a 5 metre x 5 metre grass pitch with reductions for charities and local organisations. Stalls in the Craft Tent are just £50 for a 2 metre long pitch. Send us an email to confirm availability:
